Have you thought about switching to organic chicken for you and your family? Did you know that our conventional chickens at the grocery store have been fed painkillers and anxiety reducers? Here are some percentages from recent studies published in July 2012 issue of Men’s Journal magazine that will get you to make the move from conventional chicken to organic chicken.
- 66% Amount of commercial chicken feed contains banned drugs like Tylenol, Prozac, and Benadryl, given to chickens to reduce anxiety
- 28% More heart-healthy omega-3 fats in organic chicken than conventional
- 30% Less saturated fat in organic than conventional
On top of these stats, organic chickens are raised more humanely, cage-free, in natural sunlight, and reared for the natural period of time (approx 81 days). Choosing organic means you are choosing to not consume the use of antibiotics, GMOs, toxic pesticides, synthetic growth hormones (or Tylenol and Prozac either!).
Buy food fresh off the farm from producers you personally know and trust, through CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture), farmers’ markets, or other local food movements.
